Working with neighbourhoods to connect common historical heritage in Elefsina
One of the five most important sacred cities of antiquity, Elefsina was transformed from the 19th century onwards into the productive engine of Greece and one of its largest industrial centres, becoming 2023 ELEUSIS European Capital of Culture, which seeks to unveil the invisible side of Elefsina, marking a new era for the city and its transition to a new model of development, focusing on its dynamic cultural assets.

It aims to engage the city’s neighbourhoods in the cultural and urban planning initiatives, via innovative sustainable and participatory design actions, emphasising all sorts of ethnical, religious, cultural, economical and educational inclusion.
The pilot opts to work towards the reconciliation of the differences between these communities, by creating the conditions that will let them connect to their common historical heritage, as defined by the physical, mythological and historical landscape of Elefsina.
